About

Chicago Rare at the Four Seasons Resort and Residences at The Pearl-Qatar is a modern interpretation of the vintage Chicago steakhouse.
It draws inspiration from the Art Deco era and the work of influential American architect of the Chicago School, Louis Sullivan. The design showcases strong geometric form and botanical sculptural ornamentation. Deeply rooted in Chicago’s heritage, the concept further pulls from the 1920s prohibition era—which gave birth to the speakeasy and the navigation of the city's many waterways and bridges.

The Speakeasy Bar

Upon entering, an aged copper bar to the right runs the length of the room, with dark red leather banquette seating to the left. The themes of Sullivan’s architecture and prohibition are apparent from the backlit, rusted Corten steel bridge running high overhead and the copper still-like form of the bar. Metro-style glazed ceramic tiles and stained-glass windows form the bar backdrop. Stained glass partitions and decorative metal fretwork break up the room and dress the 6m tall arched windows and doors, further nodding to Sullivan’s work. Reclaimed timber parquet floors are divvied up by bespoke Art Deco marble floor tiles demarcating the bar surround. A custom-designed meat locker splits the bar from the open grill section, displaying the best cuts.

"AvroKO has made its name by crafting gobsmacking, transportive interiors for some of hospitality's most prestigious names. Their latest, Chicago Rare, an Art Deco-esque dazzler of a steakhouse in Doha, is no exception."

The Pergola

Inspired by the Greek and Mediterranean immigrant communities of Chicago, this area of the restaurant is a departure from the dark Chicago steakhouse vibes throughout the rest of the restaurant. Gathered striped fabric dresses the ceiling above, with foliage falling between. Bespoke handmade relief terracotta tiles inspired by Louis Sullivan’s architecture clad the walls. The center of the room is a tile clad bar with band raised above behind them providing the focal point and atmosphere to the room. Beyond the arched windows that fully open in good weather lie uninterrupted, panoramic views of the Arabian Gulf beyond.
The space is heavily planted in the style of a wild Mediterranean garden.
